"I often paint underdog characters in a parallel way to Jean-François Millet painting peasants. That was the world he knew. He chose to paint that particular subject matter despite it being unpopular. Growing up in rural northern Alberta taught me little about art, but it did instill within me an ethic of hard work and authenticity. I see my choice not to paint ai prompts or found images of pretty women and waterfalls in a similar way to Millet's dedication to his authentic experience. If I cannot paint my chosen subject matter, I'd rather not paint at all, for that is the whole point."
"I must reiterate that my artwork is not based on pre-existing stories that come from any film, book or mythology. Instead, I am creating
a cast of characters and archetypes to populate unique new narratives. "
